in 10th class if three students sit on each bench, one student will be left. if four students sit on each bench,one bench will be left. find the number of students and the number of benches in that class

Let the no. of students = x.
and,    no. of benches = y.
A/Q,
x = 3y+1  --------------(1)
and,
x = 4(y-1) + 0 ----------(2)
From equation 1 and 2,
3y + 1 = 4(y-1)
or,  3y + 1= 4y -4
or,  1+4 = 4y - 3y
or,  5 = y
or,  y = 5
from equation (1),
x = 3×5 + 1 = 15 + 1
or,  x = 16

Therefore no. of student = x = 16
And no. of benches = y = 5
