In 16th group of modern periodic table , although oxygen is in 1st period why it has the least electron affinity?

That's because the size of oxygen is smaller than that of sulphur.Hence as the size is less there exists electron repulsion within oxygen atom if you add an extra electron , hence less electron affinity that is its difficult to add an extra electron .
