Even though Hitler considered mothers to be the most important citizen of his state, this was far from reality due to the following reasons:
Explanation:
- Mothers were encouraged to produce racially pure children. If they were successful in doing so, they were given concessions at theaters, hospitals, shops etc.
- Crosses were awarded to women for being the mother of racially pure Nordic German Aryans; a bronze cross was awarded for having four children, a silver cross was awarded for having six children and a gold cross was awarded for having eight children or more.
- On the other hand, the women who didn't produce racially pure children were punished or humiliated in front of the crowd.
- Those women who maintained contacts with Jews, Poles and Russians were deprived of their self-respect. They were forced to parade with shaved heads, blackened faces and placards hanging around their necks saying, " I have sullied the honor of my race."
- Some Polish women, who lived in German occupied Poland, were cruelly compelled to part with their children. If their children resembled Nordic German Aryans and managed to pass the test conducted by racial experts, they were adopted by German families. If they failed to do so, they were sent to orphanages where the most of them perished.
