In 1996, scientists cloned a sheep called Dolly. The scientists inserted the nucleus from a single cell of an adult sheep into an unfertilised egg cell with its nucleus removed. The resulting cell divided into a cluster of cells, which was then implanted in the womb of a female sheep. After many rounds of cell division, Dolly was born.
(a) The cloned sheep looked exactly like its single parent. Formulate a hypothesis to explain why that is so.
b) During a Biology lesson, a student concluded that Dolly must be identical to other sheep reproduced using the nuclei of two parents. Explain why his conclusion is wrong.
