• Brain drain is a serious issue that sets back the development of the home country. India is a country where the effect of this process is most profound.
• In 2008, developing countries of the world such as the United States of America faced one of the biggest financial crises in history. As an increasing number of people became bankrupt, the immigrants in these countries decided to return to their homes in relatively less developed countries, where the effect of the recession was not so severe. This led to a reverse brain drain.
• However, though this might look rosy, the reverse brain drain increased the already aggravated problem of educated unemployment in the country, since India now had more educated people but fewer jobs to accommodate them. Hence, even though the skilled people from abroad returned to India, job scarcity may not have allowed them to do a job deserving of their potential.
