Students are like clay; they can be modified in a way that will make their future bright and meaningful. With good efforts, we can mould the character of a student. A day dedicated to them will obviously make them feel special and will motivate them to always aim for better in life. Recently, in the year 2010, United Nations Organization (UNO) declared the birth date of APJ Abdul Kalam’s, 15th October as “World Student Day” as a mark of honour. This day is a celebration of multiculturalism, diversity and cooperation among students across the world.

Purpose of celebrating World Student Day :

Dr. Kalam always encouraged students to do better in life through his writings and speeches. According to him, the modern ideology of being a well-learned person is to sharpen the merit of the student. For any student, to rise from being an average student to an extraordinary one, only the text book knowledge is not sufficient, he should walk the path of all branches, like theory reading, understanding and its practical application. A student should lead a disciplined life and never walk the path of evil.

The inspirational personality, Dr. Kalam was not just the people’s President, but also a Teacher, Scientist, Professor, Author and a Policy-maker. Dr. Kalam always expressed his desire to be remembered as a teacher by the people. His view was that a student should always strive to mould his character in such a way that it becomes the topmost priority in their life. Students play a major role in the betterment of the society by being a good citizen, future icons and helping the society.

A man with simple personality, was born in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu in the year 1931. he worked as an aeronautical engineer with DRDO & ISRO. Dr. Kalam served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. During his lifetime, he has won many prestigious awards and honours being a renowned scientist, thinker, philosopher and a teacher.
