In 2060 B.S., Father's age is three times the age of his son

In 2080 B.S.,Father's age is two times the age of son

To find:

In which year the father was born?

Solution:

Let's assume,

"F" → be the age of the father for the year 2060

"S" → be the age of the son for the year 2060

Since father's age is three times that of the son in 2060, so we can form an eq. as,

F = 3S ....... (i)

In 2080 B.S. i.e., after 20 years (2080 - 2060 = 20 years),

Father's age = [F + 20] years

Son's age = [S + 20] years

Also given that, father's age after 20 years is 2 times the age of his son, so we can from another eq. as,

[F + 20] = 2 [S + 20]

⇒ F + 20 = 2S + 40

⇒ F - 2S = 40 - 20

⇒ F - 2S = 20

substituting F = 3S from eq. (i)

⇒ 3S - 2S = 20

⇒ S = 20 years ← age of son in the year 2060

Substituting S = 20 years in eq. (i), we get

F = 3S = 3 × 20 = 60 years ← age of father in the year 2060

∴ Father was born in the year = 2060 - 60 = 2000 B.S.

Thus, the father was born in 2000 B.S.
