Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present ages of Steven and John be x and y years respectively.

From first condition.

x+3=2(y+3)

x+3=2y+6

x-2y=3...(1)

Ftom second condition.

x+y=45...(2)

Multiply eq(2) by 2.

2x+2y=90...(3)

Add eq(1) and eq(3)

3x=93

x=93/3

x=31.

substitute x=31 in eq(2)

31+y=45

y=45-31

y=14.

Present ages of Steven and John are 31 and 14 years respectively.

Answer:age of john=12

Age of Steven 27

Step-by-step explanation:let the age of John =x

After 3 years =x+3

Age of Steven =2(x+3)

=2x+6

Sum of age =45

x+3+2x+6=45

3x+9=45

3x=45-9

3x=36

x=36/3

x=12

After 3 years 12+3=15years

Steven is twice =15×2=30years

Age of Steven after three years= 30

Three years ago age of Steven

= 30- 3= 27
