five years later equals x+5
also,five years later 3(x-9)

3(x-9)=x+5
3x-27=x+5
3x - x =5+27
2x=32
x=32/2
x=16 years

⇒Age 5 years later=x+5 years.
⇒Age 9 years before=x-9 years,
According to the question,
$3(x-9)=x+5$
⇒$3x-27=x+5$
⇒$3x-x=5+27$
