Republic form of government was established after the Romans removed their last king in 509 BC.

As per semi- legendary historians of Rome, the Nobles under the leadership of Brutus rebelled against the Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, the last king of Rome. The rape of noblewoman by the son of king has been described as the cause of rebellion. The rebel nobles were supported by Roman Army and thus forced the king to exile. Then the people established Republic and began to elect two heads annually known as Consuls to rule the country alternatively.
