In a 100 m race, if x gives y a start of 25 m, then x wins the race by 5 second. Alternatively, if x gives y a start of 50 m the race ends in a dead heat. How long does x take to run 200 m?

Answer: The answer is 20 seconds!

Step-by-step explanation:

Since X has given Y a head start of 25m, Y will run 75m only! Yet, X wins by 5 secs.

Therefore, time for Y is t+5, X is t.

From second Condition, head start is 50 and ends in dead heat means they end up in same time i.e same speed!

75/(t+5) = 50/t by equating with same speed

Solving, t =10sec.

Therefore X can go 10m/s (100m/10sec)

For 200m, 20 secs!
