Let me help you with this numerical.
Given that, A runs at a speed of 5/3 m/sec or 1.667 /sec in a 100 m race.
So,
A takes 100 / 1.667 = 59.9 sec to complete the race.
Hence, B will take 59.9 + 12 = 71.9 sec to complete 96 m of race as B has a head start of 4 m to A.
So,
B will take (100 x 71.9) / 96 = 74.8 sec to complete the race.
Thus, the speed of B = 96 / 74.8 = 1.28 m/sec
Hope it will help you. Thanks.
