Given : in a 5km race mohan wins by 500m over sohan, while sohan can give a start of 200mts to chotan in a 1 km race

To find : in a 5km race how much start (in mts.) can mohan give chotan, so that both reach the destination simultaneously

Solution:

in a 5km race mohan wins by 500m over sohan

500 m = 0.5 km

Mohan completes 5 km then sohan completes = 5 - 0.5 =  4.5 km

=> Mohan completes 1 km then sohan completes =  4.5/5 = 0.9 km

Sohan give a start of 200 m to chotan

Sohan completes  1  km  then chotan completes = 1  -0.2 = 0.8 km

Sohan completes  0.9  km  then chotan completes = 0.9 * 0.8= 0.72  km

Mohan completes 1 km then sohan completes = 0.9 km

Sohan completes  0.9  km  then chotan completes =0.72 km

=> Mohan completes 1 km then chotan completes =0.72 km

=> Mohan completes 5 km then chotan completes =5 * 0.72 = 3.6 km

mohan give chotan a start of 5 - 3.6 = 1.4 km = 1400 m

in a 5km race 1400 m start  mohan can give chotan, so that both reach the destination simultaneously
