Total quantity of mixture = 84 liters

Quantity of milk in the mixture = 3/7 × 84 = 36 liters

Quantity of water in the mixture = 84 – 36 = 48 liters

Let the quantity of water added in the mixture be x liters.

⇒ 36/ (48 + x) = 3/5

⇒ 36 × 5 = (48 + x) × 3

⇒ 180 = 144 + 3x

⇒ 3x = 180 – 144

⇒ 3x = 36

⇒ x = 36/3

∴ x = 12 liters
