In a bag containing only apples and oranges, half the number of oranges is equal to one third of the number of apples. Twice the total number of fruits exceeds three times the number of apples by four. How many apples and oranges does the bag contain?

Answer:

apples=12

oranges=8

Solution:

Let the no.of oranges=x

and apples=y

x/2=y/3

3x/2=y=apples

total fruits=x+3/2x

{2(x+3x/2)}+4=3(3x/2)

5x+4=9x/2

=10x-9x=4*2=8

x=8=oranges

apples=3/2*8

      =12
