The correct answer is 17 Apples.

This is simple mathematics, and all we need to do here is basic mathematical interpretation.

See when the apples are taken two at a time that is in pairs, we have, 17 ÷ 2

which gives us 8 as quotient and one as remainder.

So we can see that when taken in pairs, one apple remains.

Also when taken in triplets, we have, 17÷ 3, we have 5 as quotient and 2 as remainder. Hence here too, only two apples remain when taken in three's.
