In a boarding house of 80 boys there is food provisions for 30 days If 20 more boys join together

We will use indirect variation to solve this question.

First we identify the independent and the dependent variable.

Dependent variable = the number of days the provision will take.

The independent variable =the total number of boys.

Therefore the total number of boys varies inversely with the no. of days the provision will last.

Inverse relationship formulae is:

Y=k/x where you is the independent variable, x is the dependent variable and keeping is a constant.

In this case doing our substitution we get:

80=k/30

K=80×30=2400

When 20 more boys join we have:80+20=100boys.

Using the inverse formula we get :

100=2400/x

100x=2400
X=2400/100=24

The food will last for 24 days

This is 6 days less than when they were previously 80 boys.

Solution :-


∵ 80 boys have food provision for 30 days.

∴ 1 boy will have food provision for days = 30*80 = 2400 days

If 20 more boys join the boarding, then the number of boys = 80 + 20 

= 100 boys

Now, 100 boys will have food provision for = 2400/100 days

= 24 days

So, if 20 more boys join then the food provision will be for 24 days.
