solution :-

if the probability that a bulb selcted random to be defeated is 3/8

let no. of defective bulbs = x

total bulbs = 20+x

3/8 are defective

so 3/8*(20+x)=x

16 +3x=8x

16=8x-3x

60=5x

x=12

Hence no. of defective bulbs is 12
