Answer:

(a) 16

(b) 8

(c) \frac{1}{3}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

Total number of balls in the box =24

Probability of the balls being blue =\frac{2}{3}

To find:-

(a) Total number of blue balls in the box

(b) Total number of red balls in the box

(c) Probability ball being red

Solution:-

(a) Probability of balls being blue =\frac{2}{3} (∵ Given)

Since, probability of an outcome = Number of favourable outcomes ÷ Total number of outcomes

∴ Probability of balls being blue =\frac{x}{24}, where x represents the total number of blue balls.

\frac{x}{24}=\frac{2}{3}

x=\frac{2(24)}{3}

x=2(8)

x=16

∴ Total number of blue balls = 16

(b) Total number of balls in the box = Total number of red balls + Total number of blue balls

∴ Total number of balls in the box -Total number of blue balls = Total number of red balls

Let the total number of red balls represent y

y=24-16

y=8

∴ The total number of red balls = 8

(c) Probability of an outcome = Number of favourable outcomes ÷ Total number of outcomes

Probability to get a red ball = \frac{8}{24}

\frac{1}{3}

∴ The probability to get a red ball = \frac{1}{3}
