We can conclude that food B is better than food A.

GIVEN

In a certain experiment to compare two types of animal foods A and B, the following results of increase in weights were observed in animals: Animal number 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Total Increase weight in lb Food A Food B 49 53 51 52 47 50 52 53 and 52 55 52 53 50 54 54 53 40.

TO FIND

Assuming that the same set of animals were used, can we conclude that food b is better than food A?

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

We know that if a certain food is better that means it has high nutrition value which will result in weight gain.

To check which food is better than the other.

We can calculate the mean of the weights. The group whose average is greater than the other is better.

Mean of weights of animals eating Food A = (49+53+51+52+47+50+52+53)/8

= lbs 50.875

Mean of weights of animals eating food B = (52+ 55 +52+ 53+ 50+ 54+ 54 +53 +40)/8

= lb 57.875

We can conclude that food B is better than food A.
