Answer:

Total number of persons in party = 35

Step-by-step explanation:

Given data

In a party ratio of boys to girls = 5 : 3

if 10 boys leave the party ratio will be 1 : 1

Here we need to find number of persons in the party

let 5x and 3x be the number of boys and girls

⇒ number of boys after 10 boys are left = 5x -10

⇒ then ratio of boys to girls = 5x -10 : 3x  [ which is equals to 1 : 1]

⇒    5x - 10 : 3x = 1 : 1

⇒   \frac{5x-10}{3x} = \frac{1}{1}  ⇒ 5x - 10 = 3x

                     ⇒  5x - 3x = 10

                     ⇒  2x = 10

                     ⇒  x = 5

⇒ number of boys = 5x  = 5(5) = 25

⇒ number of girls = 3x = 3(5)  = 15

⇒ total number of persons in party = 25 + 15 = 35
