Let number of Peacocks be P
Let number of Rabbits be R

Number of heads = 78 (Given)
Number of legs = 240 (Given)

ONE peacock has 1 head and 2 legs
ONE rabbit has 1 head and 4 leg
Thus,
P peacocks will have P heads and 2P legs
R rabbits will have R heads and 4R legs

Equation 1 : For heads

P + R = 78

Equation 2 : For legs

2P + 4R = 240
Or, P + 2R = 120

Solving both these equations we get

R = 42
P = 36

Thus number of peacocks is 36 and number of rabbits is 42

Answer:

Let number of Peacocks be P

Let number of Rabbits be R

Number of heads = 78 (Given)

Number of legs = 240 (Given)

ONE peacock has 1 head and 2 legs

ONE rabbit has 1 head and 4 leg

Thus,

P peacocks will have P heads and 2P legs

R rabbits will have R heads and 4R legs

Equation 1 : For heads

P + R = 78

Equation 2 : For legs

2P + 4R = 240

2(P+2R)=240

P+2R=240/ 2

P+2R=120

Solving both these equations we get

R = 42

P = 36

Thus number of peacocks is 36 and number of rabbits is 42
