Answer:

I think one option is missing

3 leaps of hare = 4 leaps of jackal ....(given)

i.e 1 leap of hare = 4/3 leaps of jackal.

for every 6 leaps hare, jackal takes 5 leaps.

6 leaps of hare = 6 * 4/3 leaps of jackal = 8 leaps ....1)

taking ratio

hare/jackal = 8/5

  • The ratio of speed of hare and jackal is equal to 25 : 16 .

Given :-

  • In same time, 5 leaps of hare = 4 leaps of jackal .
  • Distance coverd in 4 leaps of hare = 5 leaps of jackal .

To Find :- The ratio of their speeds :-

A) 25 : 16

B) 1 : 1

C) 4 : 5

D) 16 : 25

Solution :-

given that,

→ 5 leaps of hare = 4 leaps of jackal

So,

→ Speed of hare : Speed of jackal = 5 leaps of hare : 4 leaps of jackal { Since time is constant , speed ∝ distance covered.} --------- Equation (1)

Now, we have also given that,

→ Distance coverd in 4 leaps of hare = Distance covered in 5 leaps of jackal .

→ Distance covered in 1 leap of hare = Distance covered in (5/4) leaps of jackal .

→ Distance covered in 5 leap of hare = Distance covered in (5×5/4) = (25/4) leaps of jackal -------- Equation (2)

therefore, Putting Equation (2) in Equation (1) we get,

→ Speed of hare : Speed of jackal = (25/4) leaps of jackal : 4 leaps of jackal

→ Speed of hare : Speed of jackal = (25/4) : 4

→ Speed of hare : Speed of jackal = (25/4)•4 : 4•4

→ Speed of hare : Speed of jackal = 25 : 16 (Ans.)

Hence, the ratio of their speed is equal to (A) 25 : 16 .
