In a circle of radius 13cm AB and CD are two parallel chords of length 24cm and 10cm respectively. Calculate the perpendicular distance between the two chords if they are on:-

i. The same side of the circle
ii. The opposite side of the circle.

Please! Help fast and please don't answer if you don't know.​

Answer:

Perpendicular from centre bisects the chord ⇒AQ=12cm,BS=5cm

By pythagorus theorem,

OA=OA2−AQ2=169−144=5cm

OB=OS2−BS2=169−25=12cm

⇒AB=17cm.

As perpendicular from centre bisects the chord

AQ = 12cm,

BC = 5cm

By Pythagoras theorem,

AO? = OQ

- AQ2 = 169 - 144

= 25

» AO = 5cm

BO2 = Os2 - BS2

= 169 - 25

= 144

B0 = 12cm

+ AB = 7cm.
