Given,

The length of the radius of the circle = 17 cm

Distance Between the centre and chord = 15 cm

To find,

Length of the chord.

Solution,

We have to apply Pythagoras theorem in this case.

Here, if we visualise a right angle triangle, then,

Hypotenuse = Radius = 17 cm

Height = Distance between centre and chord = 15 cm

Base = Half of the length of the chord = x cm

Now, according to the Pythagoras theorem,

(x)²+(15)² = (17)²

(x)² = (17)²-(15)²

x² = 289-225

x² = 64

x = 8

Half of the length of the chord = 8 cm

Length of the chord = (8×2) = 16 cm

Hence, the Length of the chord will be 16cm.
