In a circle the length of the chord is 24 cm.Find the distance from the center of the circle of radius 15 cm​

Kindly note that since the OC = radius = 15 cm.

Also, perpendicular from the centre of the circle to the chord bisects it i.e. EC = 24/2 = 12 cm.

Now, we have a right angled triangle OEC with two sides equal to 12 cm (4 x 3) and 15 cm (5 x 3) respectively.

Clearly, it is the 3,4,5 triplet where each side is multiplied by 3 OR the sides are:

3x3, 4x3, 5x3

= 9, 12 and 15

Thus, the third side = distance of chord from the centre = 9 cm.
