In a city, 40% of the adults are illiterate while 85% of the children are literate. If the ratio of the adults to that of the children is 2 : 3, then what percent of the population is literate ?

let the total population be 500
then there will be 200 adults and 300 children

literate adults :
200×40/100=80
so 80 adults are literate

literate children:
300×85/100=255
so 255 children are literate

Now the
total literates are 80+255=335
there are total 335 literates in the society

now, % literate :
500 \times x \div 100 = 335

by solving we get the percentage of literates as 67%
hence 67% is the answer
