Given :

%age of total population which are male = 62%

%age of males who are literate = 74%

%age of females who are literate = 65%

Total number of literate population in the city = 29429

To Find :

The total population of the city = ?

Solution :

Let the total population of the city be x .

Since male is 62 % , so %age of female is = 38 %

So number of males = \frac{62}{100}x

And number of females = \frac{38}{100}x

Now the 74% of males are literate , so number of males who are literate is =\frac{74}{100}\times \frac{62}{100}x

And also 65% females are literate , so number of literate females is =\frac{65}{100}\times \frac{36}{100}x

Now we have the total number of literate population is = no of literate males + no of literate females

Or, 29420= \frac{74}{100}\times \frac{62}{100}x + \frac{65}{100}\times \frac{36}{100}x

Or, 29420=\frac{(74\times 62 + 65 \times 36)x}{100 \times 100}

Or,29420 \times 100 \times 100 = 6928x

Or,x = \frac{294200000}{6928}

Or , x = 42,465.358

Or, x \approx 42,465

Hence , the total population of the city is 42,465.

Answer:

100000

Step-by-step explanation:

Males = 62%

Females = 38%

Let the population of the town be x,

According to the question,

(62/100) * x * (26/100) + (38/100) * x * (35/100) = 29420

=> 403x/2500 + 133x/1000 = 29420

=> 1471x/5000 = 29420

= > x = 29420*(5000/1471)

=> x = 100000

The population of the town is 100000
