Given : The stores I, II and III have 10% , 20% and 30% defective items respectively.  A costumer first chosen a store randomly and then selects an item randomly from the store.

To find : probability that the selected item is defective and comes form store I, store II and store III.

Solution:

Probability of choosing a store = 1/3

defective items in store I  = (10/100)20 = 2

defective items in store II  = (20/100)20 = 4

defective items in store III  = (30/100)20 =6

Probability that Defective item comes from store 1  =   (1/3)(2/20)

= 1/30

Probability that Defective item comes from store II =   (1/3)(4/20)

= 1/15

Probability that Defective item comes from store III =   (1/3)(6/20)

= 1/10
