Given : everyone plays tennis or golf or both.  In fact, 80% play tennis and 70% play golf.

To find : What percentage play both games

Solution:

everyone plays tennis or golf or both.

Total  = 100 %

Play Tennis T= 80 %

Play golf  G = 70 %

Play both = T ∩ G  =  ?

Play none = 0   ( everyone plays tennis or golf or both.)

Total = Tennis + Golf - Both  + None

=> 100    = 70 + 80  - Both + 0

=> 100 = 150 - Both

=> Both = 50 %

50 % Play both Games
