Given :-

  • Total students = 100
  • Students have bicycle = 45
  • students who have neither a bike nor a bicycle = 25% of the students who have a bike .
  • 33.33% of students having bicycles also have bikes.

To Find :-

  • How many students have a bike but not a bicycle ?

Solution :-

given that,

  • 33.33% of students having bicycles also have bikes.
  • Students have bicycle = 45 .

so,

→ Number of students having both bicycle and bike = 33.33% of Students have bicycle = (100/3)% of 45 = (1/3) of 45 = 15 students .

then,

→ Number of students having only bicycle = Students have bicycle - Number of students having both bicycle and bike = 45 - 15 = 30 students .

now, given that,

  • students who have neither a bike nor a bicycle = 25% of the students who have a bike .

now, let us assume that, number of students with only bike is equal to x .

so,

→ Number of students neither a bike nor a bicycle = 25% of

Number of students having both bicycle and bike + Number of students having only bike.

→ Number of students neither a bike nor a bicycle = 25% of (15 + x)

→ Number of students neither a bike nor a bicycle = (1/4) * (15 + x)

A/q,

→ 100 - (30 + x + 15) = (1/4)(15 + x)

→ 100 - (45 + x) = (1/4)(15 + x)

→ 55 - x = (1/4)(15 + x)

→ 4(55 - x) = 15 + x

→ 220 - 4x = 15 + x

→ 4x + x = 220 - 15

→ 5x = 205

→ x = 41 . (C) (Ans.)

Hence, 41 students have a bike but not a bicycle .
