Given :-

  • In a class of 100 students the following is the qualifying result of the examinations in
  • three subjects Economics (E), Commerce (C) and Statistics(s).
  • 10 students qualified in all the three subjects.
  • 20 qualified in E and C.
  • 30 qualified in C and S.
  • 25 in E and S.
  • 12 only in E.
  • 5 only in C .
  • 8 only in S.

Solution :-

from image when we make venn diagram of given data , we get,

  • Students qualified in all three subjects = E = 10 .
  • Students qualified in Eco. and Comm. = B + E = 20.
  • Students qualified in Comm. + Stat. = E + F = 30 .
  • Students qualified in Eco. + stat. = D + E = 25.
  • Students qualified only in Economics = A = 12.
  • Students qualified only in Comm. = C = 5.
  • Students qualified only in Stat. = G = 8.

Therefore,

  • B = (B + E) - E = 20 - 10 = 10 .
  • F = (E + F) - E = 30 - 10 = 20 .
  • D = (D + E) - E = 25 - 10 = 15 .

Hence,

A + B + C + D + E + F + G = 12 + 10 + 5 + 15 + 10 + 20 + 8 = 80.

So,

Number of students qualified in all the three subjects = 80.

Number of students not qualified in all the three subjects = 100 - 80 = 20. (Ans.)
