Answer:

number of boys = x

number of girls = 5/6 of x

boys + girls = x + (5/6)x = 44

= (11/6)x = 44

= x = 44 * 6/11

= x = 4 * 6

= 24

boys = 24

girls = 44 - 24 or 5/6 * 24 = 20

Number of girls in class is 20

Given:

The number of students in class = 44

The number of girls = 5/6 of the number of boys

To find:

The number of girls in the class.

Solution:

Let x be the number of boys in class

Given that number of girls = 5/6 of number of boys

Number of girls = 5/6 of x = \frac{5x}{6}

⇒ total number of students = \frac{5x}{6} +x = \frac{5x +6x}{6} = \frac{11x}{6}

From given data number of students = 44

\frac{11x}{6} = 44

⇒ 11x = 264

⇒ x = 24

Number of boys in class = 24

Number of girls = 44 - 24 = 20

Therefore, Number of girls in class = 20
