Then, girls = 2x/5

2x/5 + x = 49

( 2x + x×5)/5 = 49

7x/5 = 49

x = 49 × 5/7

x = 7 ×5

x = 35

Hence, number of boys are 35

Changing fraction in ratio

Girls :boys

2:5

Sum of ratio =2+5=7

1 ratio value = 49/7

=7

Boys =5x7

=35

Girls =14

2nd method

Let boys=x

Then girls
$= x \frac{2}{5}$
$x + x \frac{2}{5}$

$\frac{5x + 2x}{5} = 49$

$5x + 2x = 49 \times 5$

7x=245

X=245/7

X=35
