The average marks of those who have passed are 63

Solution:

Total students = 50

Failed = 10

Then, passed = 50 - 10 = 40

The average is given as:

Average = \frac{ \text{ sum of marks }}{ \text{ total number of students }}

Given that,

10 have failed and their average marks is 28

Total marks of 10 failed students = 10 x 28 = 280

Total marks of 50 students = 2800

Therefore,

Total marks of 40 passed students = 2800 - 280 = 2520

Find the average of passed students

Average = \frac{2520}{40} =  63

Thus the average marks of those who have passed are 63
