The average marks obtained by the passing students is 6.4.

  • In a class of 50 students, 10 have failed and their average of marks is 2.5.
  • Total marks obtained by the students who have failed is 2.5 × 10 = 25.
  • Now the total marks secured by the entire class is 281.
  • We have to find the average marks of passing students,
  • Total marks secured by passing students = 281 - 25 = 256.
  • Now the number of students who have passed = 50 -10 = 40.
  • Average marks of students who passed in the exam = 256/40 = 6.4
