Correct question:-

In a class of students 1/4 of the students are in Pratap house and 3/10 are in Ranjit house . Out of the remaining students 3/20 are in Shivaji house and rest 18 students are in Chandragupta house . Find the total number of students in the class.

[question is wrong as given question‘s answer(number of students) was coming in decimal]

Answer:

60

Explanation:

Given :

  • 1/4 of the students are in Pratap
  • 3/10 of the students are in Ranjit house.
  • 3/20 are in Shivaji house.
  • rest 18 students are in Chandragupta house.

To Find :

Total number of student.

Solution :

Let the total number of student be “x”

So,

\sf{}x\ of\ \dfrac{1}{4}\ are\ in\ Pratap\ house\\\\\Rightarrow\dfrac{x}{4}

\sf{}x\ of\ \dfrac{3}{10}\ are\ in\ Ranjit\ house\\\\\Rightarrow\dfrac{3x}{10}

\sf{}x\ of\ \dfrac{3}{20}\ are\ in\ Shivaji\ house\\\\\Rightarrow\dfrac{3x}{20}

\sf{}and\ remaining\ 18\ students\  are\ in\ Chandragupta\ house

So,Total students:-

\implies \sf{}\dfrac{x}{4}+\dfrac{3x}{10}+\dfrac{3x}{20}+18=x

\implies \sf{}\dfrac{x\times5+3x\times2+3x\times1+18\times20}{20}=x

\implies \sf{} \dfrac{5x+6x+3x+360}{20}=x

\implies\sf{}\dfrac{14x+360}{20}=x

\implies\sf{}14x+360=x\times20

\implies\sf{}360=20x-14x

\implies\sf{}360=6x

\implies\sf{}\dfrac{360}{6}=x

\implies\sf{}x=60\ students

Therefore,total number of student is equal to 60.
