to represent the situation we can convert the situation into a linear equation of two unknown

$3x - 2y = - 5$

if correct answers are given as 7 so we can put x = 7

$3(7) - 2y = - 5 \\ \\ 21 - 2y = - 5 \\ \\ - 2y = - 5 - 21 \\ \\ - 2y = - 26 \\ \\ y = \frac{26}{2} \\ \\ y = 13$
