GivEn:

  • In a class test containing 20 questions, 4 marks are given for every correct answer and (–2) marks are given for every incorrect answer.
  • Pratibha attempts all questions but only 15 of her answers are correct.
  • One of her friends gets only 5 answers correct.

To find:

  • Pratibha's score and her friends score?

Solution:

• Let there scores be x

→ If only 15 answers of prathiba were correct, 5 of them were incorrect.

→ If only 5 answers of her friend are correct, 15 of them were wrong.

⠀⠀━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━⠀

« Finding prathiba's score,

→ x = 15(4) + 5(-2)

→ x = 60 + (-10)

x = 50

∴ Hence, Prathiba's total score is 50 marks.

« Now, Let's find her friends score,

→ x = 15(-2) + 5(4)

→ x = -30 + 20

x = -10

∴ Hence, Total score of Prathiba's friend is -10 marks.
