In a class test the sum of Kunal marks in maths and English is 40 had he got 3 marks more in maths and 4 marks less in English the product of their marks would have been 360 find his marks in two subject separately

Let,

Maths mark=x

English mark=40-x

(x+3)×(40-x-4)=360

(x+3)×(36-x)=360

36x-x2+108-3x=360

x2-33x+252=0

b2-4ac

(-33)2-4×1×(252)

1089-1008

x=-b+-√4ac÷2a

x=-(-33)+-√81÷2×1

x=33+-9÷2

x=33+9÷2

x=21

Or x=33-9÷2

x=12

Maths mark=21 and English mark=40-21=19
