In a class, the number of girls is 11 more than the number of boys. If the total number of students in the class is 55, how many are girls?

The number of boys = 7x and the number of girls =5x.

According to the condition,

7x = 5x + 8

2x = 8

x = 4

Therefore The number of boys = 7x = 7 × 4 = 28 and the number of girls =5x = 5 × 4 = 20.

Therefore total strength of the class = 28 + 20 = 48
