In a class there are 15 boys and 10 girls. If each of the boys bring ‘x’ numbers of chocolates and each girl brings ‘y’ number of chocolates. Construct a formula for the total number of Chocolates ‘C’. What is the total number of chocolates if each boy brings 3 and each girl bring 4 chocolates? Use the formula constructed above to find the answer.

Let first, second and sum of (third and tenth) kid have x,y and z chocolates respectively.

Now as per condition one, we have:

x will try to double up all other chocolates i.e., he will give y to second and z to third to tenth together.

And will fall short of 2 chocolates,  

x−y−z=−2 ....(1)

and condition two is

y getting 2×9 i.e. 18 chocolates, so

x−y−18=3 ....(2)

Subtracting equations (1) and (2), we get

z=23

So, third to tenth kids have 23 chocolates.
