In a classroom, one-fifth of the boys leave the class and the ratio of the remaining boys to girls

is 2 : 3. If further 44 girls leave the class, the ratio of boys to girls is 5 : 2. How many more

boys should leave the class so that the number of boys equals that of girls?​

Answer:

Let the total no of girls & boys are b & g

we have, 4b/5g =2/3.....equation(1)

and 4b/5(g-44) = 5/2......equation(2)

From equation 1 & 2, we get 8b = 25g-(44x25)

  • 8 x 5g/6 = 25g - 44 x 25
  • g= 60
  • b = 50

Let x number of boys leave & the ratio is equal we get,

  • 4/5 x 50 - x = 60 - 44 = 16

x = 24
