since 55% of the strength is boys

           55* x = 440
                  x= 440/ 55
                 x= 8
thus no. of girls = 45x = 45*8 = 360
Hope it helps!

Let the number of girls be x.
It is given that 45% of the students are girls.
then,
 Percentage of Boys = 100 - 45
                                 = 55 %
It is given that there are 440 boys.
∴The no of boys is given by \frac{440}{x} * 100 = 55
x =  \frac{440}{55} * 100
x = 800
∴The no of girls = 800 - 440
          = 360
