Answer:

where M = students taken

maths only

B = students taken Biology only

B

= students taken both.

8 = maths only (M)

12=M+B

∴M+B

−M=B

=12−8=4

∴B

=4 students

and 25=7=M+B+B

=B+4+B

B=13

i) Biology but not maths ⇒13 (B)

ii)Both ⇒(B

)⇒4

ans- 36

Answer:

48 applicants

Step-by-step explanation:

using elimination of selected statement

1/4 opted for biology 22 is not its multiple so eliminated

by using the concept of common multiple

the number should be multiple of 4, 6, 8, 12 as its people it can't be fraction so,

36 is not the multiple of 8 so eliminated

now use elimination by substitution

use total 24 applicant

1/4 of 24 chose biology 6

1/6 of 24 chose chemistry 4

adding which we got people more than 24

so, remaining option left is 48.
