In a colony of 120 families, 72 families read “The Times of India" and 56 read “The Hindu"
and 7 families do not read either of these. Represent this by a Venn diagram and use the
same to find
a. how many read both of them
b. how many read only The Times of India
c. how many read only The Hindu.

a. 15 people read both newspaper as

(times of Hindu union times of India) =times of hindu+times of india-(times of Hindu intersection times of India)

though 7 people didn't read any newspaper so union =120-7=113

therefore, 113=72+56-intersection

113=128-intersection

-15=-intersection

intersection =15

hence, 15 people read both .

b. similarly the times of hindu=56-15=41

c. similarly times of india=72-15=57
