2/3 are scooters
remaining =1/3
1/3×3/4=1/4
remaining =1/3-1/4= 4-3/12 =1/12

so the fraction of cars is 1/12

total cars=4836
total cars=4836×1/12=403

Answer: There are 403 cars in the colony.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

Total number of vehicles = 4836

Number of vehicles are scooters = \dfrac{2}{3}

Number of remaining vehicles = 1-\dfrac{2}{3}=\dfrac{1}{3}

Number of vehicles are cycles =

\dfrac{1}{3}\times \dfrac{3}{4}\\\\=\dfrac{1}{4}

Fraction of vehicles are cars is given by

\dfrac{1}{3}\times (1-\dfrac{3}{4})\\\\=\dfrac{1}{3}\times \dfrac{1}{4}\\\\=\dfrac{1}{12}

And the number of cars in the colony is given by

\dfrac{1}{12}\times 4836\\\\=403

Hence, there are 403 cars in the colony.
