Given, students passed in english = 84 %

So, the students failed in English = 100 % - 84 % = 16 %

Students passed in math = 76 %

So, the students failed in math= 100 % - 76 % = 24 %

and students failed in both english and maths = 8 %

i)

the percentage of students failed in any of the subjects = 16% + 24% - 8% = 32%

ii)

the number of students who passed in both subjects = 100% - 32% = 68%

Therefore

68% of x = 340

Hence, the total number of appeared students are 500.
