Step-by-step explanation:

40 questions were attempted correctly.

Solution : Let the no. of correct answers be “x” and that of incorrect answers be “y”. As per the problem total no. of questions is written as x+y=75 which can be considered as equation 1. For every correct answer marks scored is 4, i.e., total marks scored for correct answers is 4x. Similarly, total marks deducted for incorrect answers is -1y. So, the second equation can be written as 4x-1y=125. By solving both equations simultaneously we get X= 40 & Y= 35.
