In a competition, an amount of Rs. 6000 was distributed equally among the participants. Later, in the competition, 5 new participants were introduced. Again the same amount was distributed equally among all the participants. After the distribution, it was observed that in the second round the old participants received Rs. 100 less as compared to the first round. How many participants were originally there in the competition

Answer:

Number of participants orginally in the competition =15.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of participants in the competition be x.

Amount distributed initially to each participant  = (6000÷x)

Number of participants in the second round= x+5

Amount distributed to each participant = (6000÷(x+5))

Given: Amount distributed to each person in second round was 100 less than that of first round.

(6000÷(x+5))+ 100= (6000÷x)

                        100= 6000÷x  -   6000÷(x+5)

                         100 × x×(x+5)= 6000×5

                         x²+ 5x =300

                       x²+ 5x -300=0

                   x²+ 20x -15x -300=0

               x=15 0r -20

Since the number of participants cannot be negative x=15

Number of participants orginally in the competition =15.
